Authorities in Findlay, Ohio, have identified the man who was fatally shot by police after officers responded to a report involving an armed individual.
The man was identified as Holden Smith, 37, according to police. Officers were called to the Rodeway Inn on Broad Avenue shortly after 1 p.m. Monday after receiving a report from a person staying at the hotel who said Smith was threatening to harm himself and had a gun.
When officers arrived, they found Smith in the parking lot. Police said he was holding and pointing the firearm while officers attempted to communicate with him and persuade him to comply. Those efforts were unsuccessful, authorities said.
Police said an officer ultimately fired a single shot after Smith raised the gun. Smith was struck and later died from his injuries.
