A 25-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were fatally shot Monday evening after leaving a Mobil gas station in Chicago’s Fuller Park neighborhood, according to Chicago police.
The shooting happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. in the 200 block of West Pershing Road. Police said the two victims were leaving the business when three people inside a silver Nissan sedan approached them.
Authorities said the three suspects got out or otherwise opened fire from the vehicle before fleeing eastbound in the Nissan. Both victims were struck multiple times and were transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.
Police said the 25-year-old man sustained 12 gunshot wounds, while the 22-year-old woman suffered six. No other injuries were reported in the shooting.
The identities of the victims had not been publicly released in the initial reports. Police also had not announced any arrests or released identifying information about the three people believed to be involved.
Detectives from the Chicago Police Department’s Area One are investigating the circumstances surrounding the double fatal shooting. Investigators are expected to examine surveillance footage and other evidence as they work to determine what led to the attack and identify those responsible.
