Chicago Lawn Shooting: One Man Killed, Another Critically Injured in Overnight Gunfire
CHICAGO, Ill. — Police are investigating a deadly shooting in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side that left one man dead and another critically injured early Sunday morning.
According to Chicago police, officers responded to the 6100 block of South Campbell Avenue at approximately 5:45 a.m. after reports of a shooting. Two men were found outside suffering from gunshot wounds.
One victim, 30, had been shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities had not immediately released his identity pending notification of his family.
The second victim, 27, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and was transported to Christ Hospital in critical condition.
Investigators are working to determine what happened before the shooting and identify the person or people responsible. Police have not yet established a motive or publicly disclosed whether the victims were targeted.
Detectives are expected to examine evidence recovered at the scene and review surveillance footage from nearby properties as they work to reconstruct the circumstances surrounding the gunfire.
The shooting occurred in the same Chicago Lawn area where police investigated another fatal shooting earlier in August, although there is no indication from authorities that the incidents are connected.
No suspect information or arrest was included in the initial reports regarding Sunday’s shooting.
