WACO, Texas — The Waco Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a 28-year-old man dead and a 19-year-old man injured Sunday evening.
According to a Waco Police Department news release dated August 23, 2026, officers were dispatched to the 3600 block of North 20th Street at approximately 5:02 p.m. following reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived, the suspected shooter or shooters had already left the scene. Officers located two male victims and immediately began performing lifesaving measures before both men were transported to a hospital by American Medical Response (AMR).
The victims were identified by police as a 28-year-old man and a 19-year-old man. The older victim later died from his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Police said the 19-year-old victim is expected to recover.
Authorities said all parties involved knew one another, and investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident. Police have not indicated that there is an ongoing threat to the general public.
The investigation remains active as detectives work to determine exactly what led to the shooting and identify the person or people responsible. Because the suspect or suspects were no longer at the location when officers arrived, investigators are asking members of the public with information to come forward.
Police have confirmed that next of kin has been notified of the 28-year-old victim’s death. His identity has not been publicly released in the initial announcement.
