Homicide: Aaron Hutchings Murder-suicide, St. Louis City, MO Obituary, Community Mourns Loss
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were initially called shortly before 5:00 a.m. to northbound Interstate 55 near the Arsenal exit for a report of a person struck by a vehicle. When police arrived, they found a man who had been hit by multiple vehicles. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation initially centered around the circumstances of the interstate death. Members of the department’s Accident Reconstruction team later determined that the man may have jumped from the Utah Street overpass onto the interstate.
While investigating the area, officers discovered blood on the hand railing of the overpass above the northbound lanes. Police then reviewed nearby surveillance footage and continued searching the surrounding area for additional information.
During their investigation, officers discovered an open door at a residence in the 3300 block of South Ninth Street in the Soulard neighborhood. When police approached the home, they observed blood on the floor near the entryway.
Officers entered the residence and found another man, described by police as being in his 40s, deceased inside the home. A knife was found near the body.
After reviewing surveillance footage, investigators determined that the man who died on Interstate 55 had been seen outside the South Ninth Street residence before walking toward the overpass.
Homicide detectives believe the incident was a murder-suicide, with investigators alleging that the man found on the interstate killed the person inside the residence before jumping from the bridge. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The case has left members of the St. Louis community reflecting on the tragedy and the loss of two lives. Police continue working to gather information and determine the full sequence of events that led to the incident.
