Brandon Clarke, the Memphis Grizzlies forward who spent his entire seven-year NBA career with the franchise, died on May 11, 2026, at the age of 29, According to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, Clarke’s death was caused by the effects of heroin and cocaine and was ruled an accident. Multiple prescription medications were also identified as a significant contributing condition.

Clarke was found unresponsive at a residence in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles on May 11. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. His death was initially announced by his agency, Priority Sports, and the Memphis Grizzlies, with the cause not immediately disclosed.

Born in Vancouver, Canada, Clarke developed into a standout basketball player during his college career at San Jose State and Gonzaga. He entered the NBA after being selected 21st overall in the 2019 NBA Draft and was traded to Memphis on draft night.

Clarke went on to spend his entire NBA career with the Grizzlies. He appeared in 309 regular-season games, averaging 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, and earned NBA All-Rookie First Team honors in 2020.

His career was affected by injuries in later seasons, including an Achilles injury in 2023. During the 2025-26 season, injuries limited him to just two appearances. Despite those setbacks, Clarke remained a respected member of the Grizzlies organization.
