Authorities in Sarasota County are continuing a major homicide investigation after a weekend shooting left two people dead and a third charge filed in connection with the incident.
The Nicholas Novickis, born 12-27-1991, has been charged by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of animal cruelty following a shooting that occurred Saturday, May 23, at a residence in the 4700 block of Mondrian Court in Sarasota.
Detectives say the case stems from a violent incident inside the home that resulted in multiple fatalities and the death of at least one animal at the scene. Investigators have not publicly detailed the circumstances leading up to the shooting, and officials say the motive remains unknown at this stage of the investigation.
Crime Scene Units remain actively deployed at the residence as forensic teams continue processing evidence. Officers are reportedly collecting ballistic evidence, documenting the interior and exterior of the property, and conducting neighborhood canvassing to establish a clearer timeline of events.
Authorities have emphasized that the investigation is still in its early stages, and additional witness interviews and forensic analysis are expected to play a key role in reconstructing what occurred inside the home.
Officials have not indicated whether additional suspects may be involved, but have confirmed that the case remains active and ongoing. Updates are expected as investigators review evidence and build the prosecution file.
Residents in the area have been advised to expect continued law enforcement presence as processing of the scene continues.
