It is with profound heartbreak that family, friends, classmates, and loved ones mourn the passing of Summer McElwee, a native of Lake Charles who died while studying in Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Summer was pursuing her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she was studying Veterinary Science. Prior to attending Ross University, she studied pre-veterinary sciences at University of New Orleans and attended both St. Louis Catholic High School and Iowa High School in Louisiana.
The devastating news was shared by Summer’s grieving mother in an emotional tribute that described Summer as not only a beloved daughter, but also “my very best friend, my heart, and my world.” Her family now faces the painful process of bringing her home while navigating unimaginable grief.
Summer will be remembered for her radiant personality, loving heart, and the joy she brought to everyone around her. Those who knew her describe her as someone who could light up an entire room with her beautiful smile and infectious energy. She loved dancing, spending time at the beach, and being surrounded by family and friends.
She also had a deep love for animals, a passion that inspired her dream of becoming a veterinarian. Her beloved dog Ryder and cat Kendal were among the many parts of her life she cherished dearly.
Friends and loved ones continue to share heartfelt tributes celebrating Summer’s kindness, warmth, and the deep love she showed to others. Her passing has left a tremendous void in the hearts of all who knew her, both in Louisiana and among the community at Ross University.
As family and friends mourn this heartbreaking loss, prayers and support continue to pour in for the McElwee family during this incredibly difficult time.
Though her life was tragically cut short, Summer McElwee’s memory, spirit, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
